#2 - The Role of Research in Supporting Early Childhood Programs in Conflict-Affected Societies
Penang

Drawing upon the experiences of early childhood educators working in conflict-affected societies, this session focuses on the role that research can play in supporting early childhood programs. Presenters will draw out some of the key messages from their book From Conflict to Peace Building: The Power of Early Childhood and will outline the vision for the newly-etablished International Working Group on Peace Building with Young Children and the role that research will play within this.

Three Professions Working Together

It takes a village to raise a child. But, for some children, the community safety net is threatened by deepening poverty, illness, and death caused by HIV and AIDS. There is little time and energy for young children in families struggling for existence. Some promising practice shows how responding to the needs of very young children can support individuals, families, and communities in their struggle with the pandemic. Urgent action is needed to flag the special needs of young children and mobilise the necessary resources and support for communities hardest hit by AIDS.
