Mission The International Working Group on Peace Building with Young
Children is a global initiative of early childhood practitioners, researchers,
and civil society organizations. The mission of the project is to be a meeting

History
This project was launched in November of 2004 when
the World Forum Foundation and NIPPA - The Early Years Organisation organized the
conference, "Working Forum Belfast - Building Bridges: Healing Communities
through Early Childhood Education." In the first part of this event,
early childhood leaders from Albania, Chad, Columbia, Croatia, Israel/Palestine,
Mali, Nepal, Northern Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Africa, and the
United States shared ideas on how their early childhood programs were bringing
communities together after periods of armed conflict. At the end of the week this
group presented their stories and strategies with early childhood leaders from
throughout the region.
The members of this Working Group convened again at World Forum 2005 in
Montreal and again in Colombia in 2006. One product of these meetings has been
the presentation of their stories and strategies in their book, From Conflict to
Peace Building: The Power of Early Childhood Education Initiatives - Lessons from
around the World.
