Teachable Moments
At the Working Forum on Men in Early Childhood Education, attendees were asked to submit presentation proposals to create an event that is diverse, different, and adds a meaningful contribution to the international discussion of male involvement in early childhood education. "The Breathing Circle" by

All participants stand in a circle, shoulder to shoulder. Once the circle is formed, everyone steps back a few feet. The group then takes a silent moment and the speaker/singer begins "in and in and in" as the group moves forward, then the speaker/singer goes "out and out and out" as the group moves back out. The in and out movement is done three times, ending in a briefly held silence. It can be repeated in cycles of three as many times as desired. The imagination behind this exercise is that a group we personify a single breathing being and doing so connect on a much deeper level in a very short time.
