MECE Leadership Bio

Ron Blatz

Ron Blatz grew up in a farm family in the Prairies of Central Canada. After being invited to work with young children by a college classmate, he fell in love with the work and has committed his career of 29 years to Discovery Children's Centre in Winnipeg Canada. Discovery Centre is the largest center in the province of Manitoba as is home to 270 children cared for by 10 male and 34 female staff. Programs include Nursery School, Infant, Pre-school, and School-age programs, an Extended hour program, and a Christian Pre-School Unit.

On an international basis Ron is part of the leadership team planning the Working Forum on MECE in Hawaii in 2008.

Stimulated by ideas bounced around at the World Forum in Malaysia Ron is piloting a Canadian MECE "Club 2-10". All 51 club members (as of Nov 1, 2007) are Centre Directors who have committed themselves to doing everything in their power to employ at least 2 men, and to work towards a goal of 10% men by the year 2010.

At a local level Ron organizes a MECE Support Group for men in the field of ECE. They meet regularly to share stories, build friendships and support each other in the struggles that men as a minority group can face in their places of employment. On occasion they also invite their female counterparts to join them in order to have a more balanced and full discussion on the issues of men in ECE.

Ron has attended countless conferences in his career but non have had as strong of an impact on him as the World Forum in Malaysia in May of 2007 along with two days of meetings the Leadership team had there. Should you plan to attend the Working Forum in Hawaii he believes your experience might be very similar. Come join us.
