Dhirendra Lamsal promotes his work with ECE on national Nepalese radio station To start 2010 with some momentum, World Forum's National Representative and Global Leader alumnus from Nepal was interviewed by the leading radio station, "Radio Kantipur" on issues related to early childhood care and education.Dhirendra Lamsal, the National Program Director of International Child Resource Institute (ICRI-Nepal), was invited to speak on early child care and education in a live radio show program hosted by RJ. Prajwal Khadka in a leading Radio in Nepal called "Radio Kantipur, Radio Rastrako" on Thursday, December 07, 2009 for 45 minutes from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM. The program was expected to have been listened to by approximately 6 million people through out the country. Mr. Lamsal, who is also a Global Leader for Young Children 2007-2009 and a National Representative of the World Forum Foundation, briefed about national and global issues and needs of early child care and education programs. Also, he introduced several projects of World Forum Foundation such as the GL Program, the Nature Action Collaboration Team, Men in Early Childhood Education, Teachers Education and HIV & AIDS projects. He spoke strongly about the roles of the adults in protecting and promoting the rights of the children in their best interest from their early age. He basically highlighted how important it is to provide a nurturing environment for a child to make a productive human resource for the next generation. Explaining about one of the ECD programs he is involved in, he said "the State (Nepal) must take responsibility for the care and education of young children. This has to be ensured in the new constitution of Nepal". The interview also evolved around the gap found between the ECD policies and practices in Nepal. During his interview, he also provided several tips and culturally appropriate technical know how for the parents while caring for a young child. He basically discussed about developmentally appropriate activities that stimulate physical growth, emotional maturity, mental curiosity and socially socialized behaviors and characters of children. He spoke against the dull, teachers' centric, conventional, rote-memorizing teaching learning practices and informed the listeners about how we would make our ECD more developmentally appropriate, child centric, meaningful, joyful and creating learning environment. During the interview, he stressed upon the significance of parents' and community involvement in early care and education programs for young children. He also highlighted about the plight of the dependent children of prisoners and requested the government of Nepal to provide allowances for their survival, education and health care in all circumstances whether they are living with their extended family members, while their father or mother are in prison, or they are being rescued by the social organizations and put into their shelter homes. Dhirendra informed: "During the live radio talk show program, I introduced the World Forum Foundation and its various projects including Global Leaders, Nature Action Collaborative for Children, Men in Early Childhood Education, etc. The DJ was so impressed when I told him about my training as a Global Leader for Young Children during the last few years, the project that we accomplished as Global Leaders, and my ongoing connection with the World Forum as a National Representative. The live radio show program was listened to by around 6 million people in Nepal. It was truly a great moment for me to be the guest speaker for the radio show and to speak on behalf of the young children of Nepal" 2007 Global Leader Anne Sivanathan focusing attention on promoting health for special needs children
The central goal of the World Forum's Global Leaders initiative is "to encourage participants to become more effective change agents and advocates for quality early childhood development services in their home countries." As a Global Leader in Malaysia, my new project is on the physical development and involvement of fathers (and other important male figures) in children's lives.
The main focus of this project was to find out whether young children (ages 4-8 years old with special needs) were getting enough exercise. Through my research, I had found that lack of exercise could mean that our children will be suffering from health problems when they grow up. If you are reading this while your child is moving through the house like a whirlwind, you might find it difficult to believe that lack of exercise could be a problem for children. However, recent research has disclosed some alarming facts.... Global Leaders pay visit to Joan Lombardi in Washington, D.C.
